Tesco Bank announce 200 new jobs in Glasgow

Benny HigginsTesco Bank chief executive, Benny Higgins – who is listed at Number 3 in the SFS Yearbook “Top 30 Rainmakers” for 2010, this week announced plans for the firm to create 200-plus new jobs in Glasgow.

The positions based in Glasgow’s International Financial Services District, at the Broadway One office block at Atlantic Quay, will focus on the selling and servicing of mortgages, due to be introduced by the middle of next year. This latest jobs announcement by Tesco Bank is welcome news for the city following heavy job losses in the last few months. Tesco Bank already employs around 450 people in Glasgow and this will increase to over 1000 by next year. The firm also employs around 550 people in Edinburgh.

The latest jobs will be created through a partnership with outsourcing firm Vertex. The 200 staff being recruited at Atlantic Quay will have their employment contracts with Vertex during this initial five-year period, and afterwards will become direct Tesco Bank staff.

Higgins remains bullish about his company’s future growth plans and prospects, despite these challenging economic times. He said the bank would concentrate on introducing mortgages next year before considering its entry into the business banking market. He also intimated that servicing small and medium-sized businesses would fit in well with the bank's existing services.
